Dallas City Pools Drown in Repair Costs

Before Dallas city council gives their final vote on this fall’s proposed bond package, city leaders still have to approve the $246,320,000 set aside for the repair and construction of Dallas city pools, parks, trails and recreational centers.

In 2015, city council approved to redevelop three out of 20 public water facilities, which includes public pools at Kidd Springs Park, Lake Highlands North and Tietze Park Pool in lower Greenville.

According to members of the Parks and Recreation Department, the city granted approval but the money was never allotted. According to an official with the city of Dallas Park and Recreation Department, since 2015, the construction cost for labor and materials has gone up an additional $11 million.

Dallas city council will vote to approve that amount Aug. 9.

Public opinion is still needed. There will be meetings held during the week of July 17.
