Dallas Baptist Stays Alive in Lubbock

Dallas Baptist University's baseball team had to win two games in a row Sunday to avoid elimination, and they did just that.

After beating New Mexico 5-3 earlier in the day, they brought the bats with them against Texas Tech.

In a game that ended respectably at 10-6, it looked early as if DBU might run away with it. They scored 7 in the first 3 innings and then tacked on 3 more in the bottom of the 6th inning before eventually allowing Tech to get back in it. The game was never in doubt for the Patriots though.

Offensively they were led, both in RBI’s and on the lineup card, by freshmen-centerfielder and Flower Mound High School alum Jameson Hannah. He and short-stop Camden Duzenack both had multiple hits and RBI’s to ensure the team would at least play one more.

While the Red Raiders put up a fight late offensively, they struggled to throw strikes on the mound — barely more than 55 percent cumulatively on the day. Starter Ty Damron, a junior from Krum High School, only gave them 2 innings and they never regrouped after that.

Now they are all set to square off in a winner-take-all game at 2 p.m. Monday in Lubbock. The winner will play East Carolina in a best-of-3 Super Regional and the loser will be sent packing for the season.

Both teams have reason for optimism, with Tech being the higher seed and DBU on a win streak.
