Dalai Lama Speaks at SMU

Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader addresses SMU crowd

Right about now, depending on how fast I can type, the Dalai Lama — Your Holiness to his friends — wraps up his address at SMU to a group of high school and college students, along with school faculty and select guests.

The Buddhist spiritual leader came to town Monday, well maybe yesterday, as part of the 10th Hart Global Leaders Forum. School officials also gave him an honorary degree but not a coaching position on June Jones’ staff, although he did receive an SMU gimme cap.

He’s got the time on his hands. The Dalai Lama announced back in March he would retire his position as head of the Tibetan government-in-exile. Next on his itinerary, according to his official website, he visits Fayetteville, Ark. Yup, lotta time on his hands.

Anyway, the show, er, address is over now but it is recorded for posterity and you.

Give it a minute. Total enlightenment doesn’t happen just like [snap] that.
