BABY SITTER RECEIVES LIFE SENTENCE FOR RAPING TODDLER
A Dallas County man was sentenced to life in prison for raping a 23-month-old child he was baby-sitting. Santos Rivera pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated sexual assault of a child. At his sentencing Thursday, he testified that he couldn't remember raping the toddler in May 2007 because he had been drinking and using cocaine. Click here to read this story on NBCDFW.com.

NEW TRIAL GRANTED IN 1983 DOUBLE MURDER CASE 
A Texas appeals court granted a new trial for a convicted double murderer who has spent more than 25 years in prison even though one of the dying victims told a paramedic that a different man was the killer. The ruling comes roughly three weeks before Billy Frederick Allen becomes eligible for parole, forcing Dallas County prosecutors to decide whether to retry a man who has already served his time or drop the case. The Court of Criminal Appeals on Wednesday ordered a new trial for Allen but stopped short of declaring his innocence.  Click here to read this story on NBCDFW.com.

POLICE: TEEN ATTACKED WITH HAMMER AT FORT WORTH SCHOOL
A 15-year-old boy was arrested this week, accused of repeatedly hitting a fellow student in the head with a hammer, the Star-Telegram reports. Fort Worth police say the attack occurred Wednesday morning at North Side High School, 2211 McKinley Ave. Witnesses told police that the suspect pulled out a hammer from his pants and began striking the victim, also 15, on the side of the head. DALLAS MAN GETS LIFE FOR LURING CAR BUYER TO DEATH
A man convicted of using Craigslist to lure a 21-year-old prospective car buyer to Dallas in a scheme to rob him has been sentenced to life in prison for the victim's shooting death.  A Dallas County jury deliberated less than an hour Wednesday before finding Kendrick Demus, 26, guilty of capital murder in Christian Marton's death. POLICE RECAPTURE WOMAN WHO USED FELLOW INMATE'S ID TO ESCAPE
A 19-year-old woman was back behind bars Wednesday, hours after escaping from the Fort Worth city jail by exchanging clothes and an identification arm band with an intoxicated inmate, the Star-Telegram reports. Police found Ashley Strange at a Woodhaven apartment Wednesday afternoon, said Sgt. Pedro Criado, a police spokesman. Click here to read this story from the Star-Telegram.

ROBBERS FOLLOW MAN FROM BANK BEFORE FATAL SHOOTING
A man who was fatally shot outside his apartment on Jan. 10 had been followed by two robbers from a Bank of America where he had just cashed his paycheck, the Dallas Morning News reports. Investigators released more details today in the murder of Hilario Velazquez, who was was killed at the Crosby Creek Apartments in the 1300 block of East Crosby Road.
