Cyclist Struck by A-Train South of Denton

A bicyclist in Denton has been hospitalized Thursday after being struck by the A-Train.

According to the Denton County Transportation Authority, the bicyclist was hit at about 9:15 a.m. near the Lakeview Boulevard crossing.

The crossing is adjacent to a crossing for the Denton Katy Trail.

Officials with the DCTA said the train had just finished its morning schedule and that no passengers were onboard at the time of the collision.

The DCTA is conducting an investigation into the incident. The DCTA said that "early indications are that all signals functioned properly and the engineer followed proper procedures. The area where the incident occurred is now clear and A-train service is running on schedule with minimal delays."

"This incident is incredibly unfortunate and serves as a reminder that pedestrians and bicyclists should use caution near rail crossings and obey all crossing warning devices," stated Jim Cline, DCTA President. "We have complete faith in the safety of our operations and the abilities of our crew."

The cyclist was taken to a nearby hospital in an unknown condition.
