Run-in with Drug Suspects Injures Police Officer in Staten Island

Police: suspects try to run over undercover cop

A plainclothes detective who was rammed by two drug suspects with their car fired four shots at the vehicle, according to NYPD officials.

The officer was hospitalized with arm and leg injuries on Friday. The 24-year-old driver suffered a graze wound to the head and was hospitalized. His 18-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries when the bullet went through the windshield.

Police say the officers on Staten Island noticed the two men in some type of drug exchange in the car parked at a shopping center. When they went to the car, the driver rammed the detectives. Only one officer fired. Oxycontin pills and cocaine were found in the car.

The two sped off and were arrested about a mile away by other officers responding to the scene.
