Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett says wide receiver Dez Bryant suffered a hairline fracture in his knee in last week's win over Chicago.
Bryant was held out of practice Wednesday and his immediate status is listed as day-to-day, Garrett said.
"We got his MRI back and he has a slight hairline fracture in one of the bones of his knee. From what I've been told is it's a day-to-day, week-to-week injury," Garrett said. "We've had players with this kind of injury who miss no time in the past -- other players have missed up to a week too, or more than that."
The Cowboys remain hopeful Bryant will be able to play against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
"We'll take it day-by-day and we'll see how he does. When he comes in tomorrow [Thursday], see how he feels and we'll make our evaluation there as we go forward," Garrett said.
Bryant injured the knee on his first catch early in the game but returned to the field in the first quarter. He caught his first touchdown of the season in the fourth quarter of the 31-17 win.
The star receiver's knee was evaluated after the game Sunday, but the MRI was not done until Wednesday morning, Garrett said.

Bryant took part in a workout at The Star Wednesday afternoon; Garrett said Bryant looked like he was moving around pretty good.
When pressed for specifics on the injury or why it took three days to get an MRI, Garrett refused to comment further.
Bryant missed seven games last year after breaking his foot in the opener. He also dealt with ankle injuries last season.
