Countdown to State Fair Begins

Organizers reveal this year’s theme

OK, now that we’ve closed the book on the most successful Super Bowl in North Texas history it’s time to talk State Fair of Texas.

Sure it is. It’s only seven months away, or according to the countdown clock on the official website, 213 days, 22 hours, 14 minutes, and 31, 30, 29, 28 … seconds to go, and that could be subject to change but you’ll notice.

The important thing to know here, at least the message the folks at The State Fair of Texas® hope to convey, is this year’s theme — 125 Years: A Timeless Tradition, because how else can you justify issuing a press release seven months in advance?

This year’s installment includes all the obligatory events and exhibits such as Big Tex, the auto show, the musical, the midway, and the rather large woman with an ice cream cone in one hand, funnel cake in the other, and a wailing child trying to get a grip on her over-stretched Spandex Capri pants doing the 100-meter-mosey right in front of you, and move damn it, let me pass.

Still, the big question remains. What bit of battered-and-fried mutation will the Fried Food Capital of Texas® — yup, they really registered the phrase — unleash on the salivating public?

Admittedly, though, chicken fried bacon sounds pretty awesome.
