Construction Leads to Closures on I-35, LBJ

Closures on I-35E, I-35W, I-635

Construction on three major highway projects may have North Texas drivers looking for new routes around closed portions of roadways in Dallas and Fort Worth.

Starting Jan. 13, construction of the new LBJ/Interstate 635 freeway in Dallas will close the portion of Webb Chapel Road that travels under the freeway. Similarly, Valley View under I-635 has been closed since Jan. 6.

Both portions of those roads force drivers to detour to other frontage roads and alternate routes in order to cross I-635. Drivers in the area should also watch out for stop signs which will be set-up in place of traffic lights on the north and south of each intersection while the road is under construction.

The section of Webb Chapel under I-635 is scheduled to re-open in Fall 2014, according to the LBJ Express Project.

Another major project impacting Dallas drivers will be the underpass closure of Fleming Place under northbound I-35E as part of the Dallas Horseshoe Project. The temporary closure, set for Jan. 13, will also permanently relocate the Eighth Street on-ramp to NB I-35E. The map below shows additional details.

In Fort Worth, closures of southbound lanes of I-35W at U.S. 287 will take two nights.

On Jan. 13 and 14, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, the southbound lanes of the freeway will be closed while crews install new bridge beams for I-35W northbound lanes to U.S. 287.

Drivers will be detoured on U.S. 287 to Harmon Road and then redirected southbound to I-35W lanes beyond the construction. Police are scheduled to be on-site during the traffic switch to help direct traffic.
