Conspiracy Theorist Alert: Sixth Floor Opens Research Room

The Cubans? The Mafia? Lee Harvey?

Dallas County commissioners voted Tuesday morning to approve a request from the Sixth Floor Museum to create a reading a media room. Researchers into the arguably mysterious events surrounding the assassination of the former president can now pore over the museum’s 35,000 accumulated audio, video and text artifacts.

The room will be on the first floor of the county administration building where the museum occupies the sixth. The museum has hired a firm to renovate unused offices to make room for it, and it should be opened in November of 2009.

Lest the resource become a hang-out for the JFK conspiracy theory obsessed, use will be restricted to appointment only, from 12-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.

"As we approach the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination, the museum has renewed its responsibility to make its considerable resources available to students, educators and researchers," says Nicola Longford, the museum's executive director. "The Reading Room presents an excellent opportunity to showcase and expand our collections."

Maybe someone will discover what “really” happened.
