Company Recalls Frozen Spinach Over Listeria Concerns

A California company recalled more than 8,000 cases of spinach Tuesday that might be tainted with Listeria.

Superior Foods, Inc., officials recalled 10-ounce bags of Simply Balanced frozen organic chopped spinach that are sold exclusively at Target stores when they were informed they might have received spinach with the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

The company recalled bags of spinach with the following best-by dates:

  • June 26, 2016
  • July 26, 2016
  • Aug. 20, 2016

Listeria can cause serious infections, especially in young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems. Healthier individuals might only suffer short-term symptoms like fever, headache, nausea and diarrhea.

Company officials said they are not aware of any illness complaints related to this event.

Consumers who have any of the product identified should dispose of it or return it to the store where it was purchased. For questions, contact Superior Foods at 866-672-0811.
