Community Prepares to Say Goodbye To Longtime Arlington Junior High School

One of Arlington’s oldest junior high schools will soon close forever, but not before community members get a chance to say goodbye.

On Monday May 18, Hutcheson Junior High will host a special farewell ceremony and open house. The event begins at 7 p.m.

“People will be able to walk around and take pictures,” said Inelda Acosta, Principal at Hutcheson Middle School. “After all, our life experiences turn into memories -- fond memories.”

The school was built in 1963 and was the original home of Sam Houston High School. It became a junior high school in 1970.

Hutcheson will be torn down this summer to make way for Arlington ISD’s new career and technology center, which is part of a bond package that voters approved in 2014.

“It’s exciting and it’s sad,” said Acosta. “But our focus is making a pathway for the future.”

Students who currently go to Hutcheson will attend Workman Junior High next fall.
