Gardeners in a North Texas city under strict outdoor watering restrictions due to the drought have another way to show their green thumbs.
Wichita Falls officials say a water well has been drilled for use in a community garden.
A city statement Wednesday said spots are available as part of the Smith Street Community Garden.
The garden has 79 plots available to the public, businesses, civic groups, schools and other organizations, to lease seasonally or yearly. The cost per plot ranges from $15 to $25. The area is fenced and has video surveillance for security.
Wichita Falls is under a Stage 5 drought catastrophe, which means no outdoor watering from city sources. Violators face fines of up to $2,000.
