Collin County Commuters Celebrate Interchange

Collin County commuters are celebrating the completion of an interchange connecting U.S. 75 to the Sam Rayburn Tollway.

The sixth ramp and final ramp is officially complete and will open Thursday afternoon -- two months ahead of schedule.

Construction on the $212 million project began in 2008. The interchange is designed to ease traffic congestion and increase safety.

"I love it," said Paul Ernest of McKinney. "It's much quicker to get around, not as much bottlenecks."

The project is already opening the door for new business development in both McKinney and Allen.

"We moved here around three weeks ago," said Patricia Zalze, a floral designer at In Bloom Flowers.

After 15 years in west McKinney, the florist moved to a new location just north of the interchange.

"Since 2008, 2009, this area has been developing a lot, and we felt this the right move, to a brand new area," Zalze said.

She said she's already seeing an increase in orders -- and a decrease in delivery time.
