A Colleyville teenager is facing a felony charge after being caught with a gun at school, police say.
Staff at Colleyville Heritage High School got a tip Thursday afternoon from a fellow student that a classmate had a handgun.
The school resource officer and high school principal found the student and searched his backpack, where they found a .45 caliber Remington semi-automatic handgun, along with ammunition. The gun was not loaded at the time.
Police discovered the gun belonged to a family member.
The student, a 16-year old boy, will be charged with having a weapon in a prohibited place, which is a third-degree felony.
The investigation found no threats were made by the student at any time. Police are not releasing the student's name or photo, because he is a minor.
