Colby Lewis to Miss Two Months with Muscle Strain

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Colby Lewis will miss up to two months with a Grade 2 strained right lat muscle.

Lewis lost his first game of the year Tuesday to a very bad Cincinnati Reds club.

Lewis is 6-1 in his 15 starts for the first place Rangers. His ERA is 3.21. Lewis has pitched 98 innings this season.

Lewis won't throw for four weeks and will then have another MRI to determine if he can begin a throwing program. The process of rebuilding his arm strength could take another four weeks.

Rangers GM Jon Daniels called the injury news a "kick in the gut."

"These are kind of nagging soft-tissue injuries that, if you go too quick, they happen again," Daniels added. "There's really no accelerating this kind of injury. You have to give it time."

No word yet on who will take Lewis' spot in the Rangers' rotation.

Lefty Derek Holland was placed on the 15-day DL earlier Wednesday with left shoulder inflammation. A third member of the Rangers rotation, Yu Darvish, could be out until the All-Star Break with tightness in his right shoulder.
