Coble Middle School to Reopen After Transformer Fire

The Mansfield Independent School District said Coble Middle School will reopen Wednesday morning after crews restored power to the building late Tuesday night.

All before- and after-school activities will also resume as normal, the district said.

The school had lost power when a transformer caught fire Saturday afternoon, destroying the transformer and wiring leading into the building. Coble was closed to students and faculty Monday and Tuesday while crews worked tirelessly to make repairs.

During an emergency meeting Tuesday evening, the Mansfield ISD School Board approved more than $400,000 to cover those repairs. About half the money will pay for electrical work. The other half will pay for concrete repairs, as crews had to do a lot of digging to reach underground power lines.

District officials told board members they're optimistic their insurance will help them cover the majority of those costs.

"We have an outstanding staff," said School Board President Dr. Michael Evans. "These people have been working really hard. We know we have a top-notch group and we trust that they're going to get this done."

The cause of the transformer fire remains under investigation.
