Coast Guard Says Barge, Tugboat Grounded Near Galveston

The U.S. Coast Guard says a tank barge carrying oil waste and a tugboat became beached near a Galveston beach after drifting from where they were anchored.

The Coast Guard said Monday that they're working with contractors and the owner of the tugboat and barge. The two vessels became grounded Sunday after drifting from their anchorage and across the Houston Ship Channel.

The Coast Guard says response crews are waiting for weather and tidal conditions to improve to refloat the vessels. Those favorable conditions are expected as early as Tuesday afternoon.

The Coast Guard says there are no reports of damage to either vessel. No pollution has been reported. There's about 6,000 gallons of oil waste stored in smaller tanks on the upper portion of the barge.
