More than 3,300 animals were adopted Saturday at animal shelters across North Texas during the annual Clear the Shelters event.

The tally continues to grow as more shelters report their final numbers.
For the entire Clear the Shelters campaign, since July 2, more than 7,500 animals have been adopted in North Texas.
Several shelters were completely cleared by 5:00 p.m. Saturday, including Dallas Animal Services, Arlington, Watauga, Euless, Wylie, Hurst, Farmers Branch, Glen Rose and Murphy.

At Dallas Animal Services the line stretched all around the building, with folks waiting to make that perfect connection.
"She just has such a sweet heart and I think she's a perfect fit for our family," said dog adoptee Cyndel Solano.
"We went into his cage and he was a little playful and he especially liked my little sister so we picked him," said a very happy child named Destiny Jaramillo.
"It's a better atmosphere at home, [the pet] gives them something to do other than be on the phone and be on games," said Destiny's mother Mary Jaramillo.
NBC 5 launched the first adoption event in 2014. It was such a resounding success it was rolled out nationwide in its second year. Now in its third year, we were joined by even more television stations and animal shelters across the country.
More than 40 local NBC and Telemundo television stations teamed up with more than 680 animal shelters across the country and in Puerto Rico for the event on Saturday. Animal shelters were offering no-cost or reduced-fee adoptions or waived spaying and neutering fees.
Nationwide, the total number of animals adopted for Clear the Shelters this month has crossed the 40,000 mark – far surpassing the 19,000 animals adopted during last year's event.
Natalie Morales, NBC News' West Coast anchor for the "Today" show, will host a 30-minute special on Friday, July 29, to recap the day. It will air on the NBC Owned Television Stations and on more than 120 NBC affiliated stations.
