North Texas Churches Offer Ashes to Go

Christians around the world mark the beginning of the holy season of Lent on Ash Wednesday and some North Texas churches are taking the tradition of putting a cross of ashes on people's foreheads to the streets.

Area churches are offering "ashes to go" as a sort of drive-through for the blessing of ashes. In addition to Ash Wednesday church services, churches will offer blessings to people at schools, parking lots, college campuses and even some Starbucks locations as a way to help followers participate, despite a busy life.

Anyone can simply drive up and a priest will walk over to mark your forehead. Then, you can go on with the rest of your day.

Lent is the six-week period leading up to Easter. It is a time of reflection and repentance.
