The Tarrant County Medical Examiner identified the girl as 2-year-old Iva Potter, who died two weeks before her third birthday.

According to police, the girl's family was moving into a home in the 1300 block of Wentworth Drive on Thursday, and they took a door that leads from the garage into the laundry room off its hinges to help facilitate moving.

The door had been leaning against a wall inside the home, according to Lewisville Capt. Dan Rochelle, when it fell, knocking the child to the ground. Police don’t know exactly what caused the door to fall.

“Honestly, I don’t think we’ll ever know the answer to that,” Rochelle said. “There are some different theories that she may have pulled the door on her. There is also a wind-tunnel effect from the garage going into the house, and maybe that wind caught the door and knocked it over on her.”

The family called 911. Rochelle said a patrol officer arrived to find the child unresponsive and performed CPR until paramedics arrived. She was rushed to Medical Center of Lewisville, where she was pronounced dead just before 2 p.m.

Police said Iva has a twin sister.

While Lewisville police continue to investigate, they said at this point it appears to be a tragic accident.
