Euless firefighters responded to the fire just before 10 p.m. at the duplex in the 2900 block of Roxboro Road.

The family and two of their three cats made it out of the house safely, but one cat didn't survive.

Authorities said one firefighter called for help after falling through the ceiling.

"He was up in the attic, fighting the fire in the attic," Euless Fire Department Capt. Keith Smith said. "He lost his footing and fell through the ceiling just over the bedroom area. There happened to be a crew working underneath in that room, saw him fall, and was able to assist him pretty quickly."

No other injuries were reported.
