Hundreds of young football players turned out at AT&T Stadium for the Cotton Bowl's annual youth clinic. Also in attendance was Dallas Cowboys corner back Brandon Carr.
The NFL veteran told the campers about his journey to the league from the small school of Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan.
In April, Carr took a pay cut to stay in Dallas instead of potentially getting cut and becoming a free agent. It's hard to find another Cowboy who does more community work than Carr, and his relationship with North Texas factored into his decision to stay.
"There were a few factors that played into my decision to stay here, and a big deciding part of that was the community, the youth that I try to inspire on a daily basis through the foundation and all those things to try and provide resources and just a took for them to sharpen their skills," said Carr."
"So, I've gotten such a great reception from the community for the last four years and I was committed to five years. So, I'm just ready for this last year to put it all together both in the community and on the field."
Carr's contract will expire after this year unless the Cowboys re-sign him. That alone gives the corner back plenty of fuel for the upcoming season.
"I am motivated, just for several reasons outside of the contract. It's just personal goals and accomplishments I'd like to have before I leave this game. I grew up being a Cowboys fans and I want to represent well and do it the right way," said Carr.
