Fort Worth Police: ‘Unclear' If Child Was in Stolen Car

Fort Worth police now say it is "unclear" if there was a child in a car that was stolen just before 12 p.m. Sunday.

Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 11:44 a.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of Fair Park Boulevard.

At the time, police said there was a 1-year-old in the car when it was taken.

The car was stolen after the car's driver got out of the vehicle to drop off a package for his wife, Fort Worth police said.

Police said the man driving the car was babysitting the 1-year-old and met with an acquaintance who repairs cars. When the man got out of the car, his acquaintance "slid into the driver's seat" and drove off with the child still in the car, police said.

Police said around 5:30 p.m. the car was located and the man who took it in custody.

Police said they were interviewing the man whose car was stolen and the person who stole it to determine further details.

Police said the incident would be treated just as a stolen vehicle case.
