Capital Murder Suspect Among 3 Who Escaped Detention Center

Three juveniles, including one charged with capital murder, have violently attacked a guard and escaped a Houston detention center, according to the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department.

Authorities said the three escaped early Sunday morning when the guard opened a cell after one of them asked for toiletries.

Investigators are looking at whether the guard violated policy by not having other detention personnel present when opening a cell.

Tom Brooks, director of the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department, told NBC affiliate KPRC in Houston surveillance video has been turned over to investigators.

One of the three who fled the Harris County Juvenile Probation Center is 16-year-old Alferis Coby, who was certified to stand trial as an adult for the March fatal shooting of a man outside a nightclub.

KPRC reports the other two have aggravated robbery charges.
