Capital Murder Charge Against 17-Year-Old in Far-South Texas

Starr County District Attorney Omar Escobar says a 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with capital murder for the slaying of another 17-year-old from Rio Grande City in far South Texas.

Jose Luis Garcia Jr. was arrested Friday by Texas Rangers and is the third person in custody in connection with the disappearance and death of Chayse Olivarez.

Olivarez went missing two weeks ago after failing to join some friends to play basketball.

Escobar says his remains have been recovered. No details have been released.

The district attorney said Saturday two juveniles arrested in the case earlier last week could be prosecuted as adults. One is charged with murder. The second is charged with tampering with evidence and failure to report a felony.
