Calls to Domestic Violence Hotline Increase in 2009

Dallas advocate says economy puts pressure on already violent households

Recent reports show the National Domestic Violence Hotline answered 17,000 more calls last year than the year before.

Jan Langbein, executive director of Genesis Women's Shelter in Dallas, says the poor economy puts more pressure on already violent households.

She also said women who might be thinking of leaving a violent situation are afraid to because of the lack of jobs.

Genesis provides food and shelter for women and families in dangerous domestic situations.
