Bypass Lanes to Ease LBJ Exit’s Flood Concerns

Crews are working on bypass lanes that would allow drivers to avoid flood-prone areas along Interstate 635 exits near White Rock Creek.

The area near the Park Central exit floods whenever it rains heavily, closing the exit. Traffic in that portion of the freeway then builds.

The bypass lanes will help traffic flow when it rains.

"It allows you to bypass the stop sign signals here and continue to Hillcrest if you're going the westbound direction and, likewise, eastbound if you're going to Coit," said Andy Rittler, LBJ Express spokesman.

The bypass lanes should be done by December, he said.
