Burger Joint Donates Meat to Rehabilitate Sick Lion

The Twisted Root Burger Co. is known for feeding hungry patrons, but the restaurant took it one step further on Wednesday -- by feeding hungry lions.

Owner and Chef Jason Boso said he received an interesting email in the morning from the In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue Education Center in Wylie.

The center employees said they were desperate and had a very sick African Lion named Aramis, who would only eat elk meat.

The center called local hunters, but no one had the meat.

That’s where Boso stepped in.

“I just so happened to get a shipment of 50 pounds of elk meat today and I was about to grind it into hamburgers, but no way! I’m going to take it to a lion!” Boso exclaimed.

Boso gathered up his staff and headed out to the center and sure enough, slowly but surely Aramis began to eat.

The staff was also able to slip medicine into the meat.

“I think it’s awesome," said Boso. "I mean a lion and me, we have a lot in common. We eat buffalo and elk and venison, so I needed to help my brother out!”

Boso said the meat should last Aramis for two weeks. The center employees are hopeful he’s healthy by then.
