Brenham High School Student, 16, Killed When Tree Limb Falls

A 16-year-old high school student working with a volunteer group cleaning storm debris in hard-hit Washington County has died of injuries he suffered when a tree limb fell on him.

Police in Brenham say Jarrett Russell Halfmann was hit when a limb resting between a roof and a utility line dropped as he was passing under it Monday.

Halfmann was taken to a Brenham hospital where he died.

Brenham High School Principal Steve Skrla tells The Eagle of Bryan-College Station that Halfmann was a sophomore at the school where his mother has taught for 14 years.

Funeral services are set for Thursday.

At least four other people have died in flooding in the county between Houston and Austin.
