Bomb Threat Received at Dallas' Fairmont Hotel

Several blocks of Downtown Dallas were blocked off Friday morning following a report of a bomb at Dallas' Fairmont Hotel.

According to Maj. Max Geron with the Dallas Police Department, the hotel called the police at about 3:40 a.m. after a guest began acting strange.

When officers arrived, Geron said the man reported someone snuck into his room and left a box that contained a bomb due to a secret that he has.

The man told police the box had been carried the hotel's garage by hotel personnel and placed into his car, which is where police found it.

Hazmat crews with Dallas Fire-Rescue were called to the scene and cordoned off two blocks around the hotel while the box was investigated.

The bomb squad and hazmat crews both examined the box and determined it contained no explosive and posed no threat.

The man who made the report was taken into custody and transported to Green Oaks Hospital for evaluation.

Police said the man had a large amount of cash on him, which was part of a larger story he told police about his greater purpose and something he was supposed to do.  Police said they do not know where the cash came from.

The amount of cash was not disclosed.

The 475 guests of the hotel were not evacuated, both hotel officials and DFR told NBC 5.

The roads around the hotel, which had been closed for much of the morning, have been reopened to traffic.
