The woman called police when her vehicle broke down on westbound Texas 114 near Freeport Parkway at 6:16 a.m., authorities said. Investigators said Lorena Vasquez, 36, was outside her car when a man driving a minivan struck her.

Three more vehicles wrecked after the initial collision, police said.

"Make sure your hazards are on and get away from it," Irving Police Department Sgt. Steven LaDart said. "Call 911 and alert police your car is disabled in the roadway and try to get away from it the best you can."

Irving police said once Vasquez's was found, they stopped cleaning the wreckage and declared the location a crime scene. Police said they have not charged the minivan driver, but they are still investigating.

"We are basically mapping the whole scene to get a scale drawing and diagram," LaDart said.

The wreck forced police to shut down all but the left lane of westbound Texas 114. All lanes had been reopened by 10:30 a.m.
