BBB: Garland's Oldest Downtown Business Deceived Customers

Business accused of repeatedly advertising 'store closing' sale

The Better Business Bureau of Dallas is accusing one of Garland's oldest downtown business of deceiving customers.

Baker's Furniture and Accessories on Main Street is being accused of deceptive advertising.

Since July, the store has been repeatedly advertising a "store closing" sale but has apparently never filed the lawful paperwork with Dallas County or set a date for closure.

The BBB said it has received a complaint that Baker's advertised store closing sales in March 2007. The BBB has turned over the investigation to the Attorney General’s office.

James Baker, the furniture store's president, said he plans to close the Garland store in November.
