Authorities Arrest Man Accused of Sexually Assaulting Child at Colorado Homeless Shelter

Deputies arrest a man accused of sexual assault and his mother for lying to authorities

Sheriff's deputies said they arrested a Willis Point man Thursday accused of sexually assaulting a child at a Colorado homeless shelter.

Authorities with the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested 28-year-old Joshua Borth, who was wanted by the Durango Police Department in connection with the sexual assault.

Borth was arrested without incident after authorities said they found him armed with stolen .22 and 30-06 rifles in an abandoned structure on his family's property.

Sheriff's deputies said he tried climb out a window, but quickly gave up.

Deputies said Borth was also found with camping gear and survival equipment. They think he had been hiding in the woods on his family's land for the past week.

Borth is being held at the Van Zandt County Justice Center without bond until he can be transported back to Durango.

Authorities said they also arrested Borth's mother — 54-year-old Janie Borth — for hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon after she told U.S. Marshals that she has not seen her son in several days. She is being held at the Van Zandt County Justice Center pending arraignment.
