Austin Woman, 36, Dies After Being Mauled by Dogs

A woman has been found mauled to death by dogs in a large fenced yard of a rural home on the northeastern edge of Austin.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office says a caretaker had come to the property to feed the dogs found the body of 36-year-old Erin McCleskey of Austin about 9 p.m. Wednesday.

A sheriff's office statement says McCleskey apparently was visiting the house on business and had just entered the front gate of the large yard when she was attacked. Animal control officers impounded six dogs and also found 14 puppies confined on the property. The dogs appeared to be mixes of Labrador retriever and Great Pyrenees, except for two apparent husky/Australian cattle dog mixes.

The adult dogs are being held in rabies quarantine.
