Austin Lifeguard Found Dead, Swam in Rain-Swollen Creek

A lifeguard died after swimming in a rain-swollen creek on Tuesday.

Austin police say an off-duty city lifeguard has died while swimming alone in a rain-swollen creek.

Authorities say the body of 24-year-old Ceazar Kainz of Cedar Park was located Tuesday in Barton Creek. Officials didn't immediately release a cause of death.

Investigators say Kainz went swimming with some friends on Monday when he stayed behind as the others left. His friends later returned, were unable to find Kainz and reported him missing.

Kainz was a lifeguard at Barton Springs Pool. He formerly was a water safety instructor at the Corpus Christi Natatorium.

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department on June 1 closed the Barton Creek Greenbelt due to heavy rain and weather-related safety concerns. Officials cited high-flowing water from upstream dam releases.
