Austin Judge Shot in 2015 Thought She Was Going to Die

A judge in Austin who was shot last fall while in a vehicle said it was the most terrifying incident of her life and she thought she was going to die.

The ambush happened Nov. 6 as District Judge Julie Kocurek, who presides over criminal cases, drove up to her home. She told KXAN-TV she tried to take cover after hearing rapid gunfire and the sound of the windshield shattering.

No one has been charged but police have identified a person of interest in the attack that left the judge recovering for several months. Kocurek returned to the bench in February.

Kocurek said she will end her career on her own terms when she's ready.
