Dallas police said they are searching for one man and have caught another man they believe was involved in a smash-and-grab ATM robbery early Tuesday morning.
Around 3:10 a.m., Dallas police said the two men rammed a stolen pickup truck into the Speedy Cash Loans business in the 2600 block of South Hampton Road, then stole an ATM from inside the business.
Police said the men picked up the cash machine, loaded it into the back of the truck, then sped away.
Investigators said two workers that were in the business were not injured. One of those workers was able to snap a photo of the truck using his mobile phone, which helped police find the men. Police say the men had been wearing hoodies and gloves.
Officers said the men moved the ATM from the stolen truck into a stolen van in the an alley off Franklin Street and Clearview Circle before trying to escape. Police cornered them near the alley. The men bailed out of the van and one was apprehended by police. The other is on the loose.
Police said they've seen this scheme before.
Even with significant damage to the entrance and shattered glass from the incident in the parking lot, the 24-hour business remains open to customers. The window is now boarded up.
