A former gang captain has been sentenced to 14 years in prison over the 2008 drug-related slaying of a prospective member in South Texas.

Urbish pleaded guilty to committing a violent crime in aid of racketeering in a plea deal over the death of Mark Davis Byrd Sr. of Pleasanton.

Investigators said Byrd was tortured and slain for stealing drugs that he was supposed to deliver. His body was dumped in Atascosa County.

Authorities saID Urbish was part of the chain of command ordering the slaying.

Nearly a dozen people have pleaded guilty in the case, including two men sentenced to life in prison.
