Police Seek Gunmen After Armored Car Heist

Dallas police are searching for four people who shot an armored truck guard during a heist in Oak Cliff.

The shooting happened at about 12:45 p.m. after an armored truck arrived outside of a check-cashing business in the 3300 block of West Illinois Avenue.

As the guard approached the business, the robbers emerged from the Dumpster area and demanded the guard’s bag at gunpoint, police said. The guard complied with the request, but at least one of the robbers fired several rounds, striking the guard one time, police said.

Although the guard was armed, he was unable to fire any rounds, police said. The thieves then fled westbound in a red, four-door, Pontiac Grand Am with dark tinted windows, a sunroof and a spoiler on the rear, police said.

The Dallas Police Department launched its Helicopter Air 1 to search for the robbers as officers searched a nearby apartment complex.

The passenger of the armored car, who was shot in the hip, was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was in good condition, police said.

The robbers, who appeared to be armed with both handguns and rifles, wore gray sweatshirts, dark pants, and ski masks, police said.
The group's attire hindered police from determining a specific gender or race.
