Arlington's Understaffed Animal Services Dept. Preps for Move

New, larger facility scheduled to open Jan. 14.

The city of Arlington is preparing to open its new multi-million dollar animal shelter on Jan. 14, even though there are currently not enough workers to staff its current, smaller facility.

Officals with animal services have requested that they be allowed to hire four additional people and have an increased budget.

The $5 million shelter has self-service kiosks where people can search for adoptable or lost pets -- and is designed to reduce the workload of employees.

The new facility is located south of the Arlington Municipal Airport at 1000 SE Green Oaks Boulevard.

Among the improvements in the new facility are better ventilation and sanitation equipment designed to keep the animals safer.
