An Arlington police officer was shot multiple times and a drug suspect was killed in a shootout that began as officers prepared to serve a narcotics search warrant at a home Tuesday evening.
The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. at a home near Green Oaks Boulevard and Kelly Elliott Road in southwest Arlington. [[454347783, R]]
Police said that while SWAT officers approached the house to execute the warrant, someone inside the house began firing shots, striking one officer severeal times in the lower extremities.
The SWAT officers fired back, hitting one person at the home.
The injured officer, whose name has not been released, was transported to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth where a police department spokesperson said the officer's condition is "guarded" but stable.
The officer is expected to recover, officials said.
In a tweet, Arlington Police Chief Will Johnson reported that the injured officer is "alert, stable and receiving excellent care. Thank you for your prayers of support."
A second officer was injured by shrapnel in the shooting and had minor hand wounds. That officer received medical treatment at the scene, police said.
Police said the suspect, whose name has not yet been released, died from injuries sustained in the shooting.

Officers detained several other people from the house and they believed an additional person may have remained inside, so SWAT officers surrounded the home for several hours while they attempted to reach anyone still inside.
NBC 5 crews observed police knocking down a fence near the home so neighbors could safely evacuate the area while police observed the suspect house.
Just before 10 p.m. police confirmed there was no one else inside the home.
