Arlington police said they were called to a minor crash in a restaurant parking lot on the 5300 block of Matlock Road at about 6:40 p.m. Investigators said Douglas Ligon was backing a vehicle out of a parking spot and struck a car driving through the parking lot.

Officers determined Ligon — a part-time Arlington police officer since 2008 — was intoxicated and arrested him, according to police.

Ligon has since resigned from the Arlington Police Department, where he was a full-time officer from 1979 until 2008.

No injuries were reported in the collision and only minor damage was sustained to the vehicles involved.
