Arlington Councilman Mel LeBlanc is resign from his seat after a recent scandal over a police investigation into alleged drug use.
LeBlanc was investigated last year after his wife called 911 in July and asked for a police officer to come to their home. She said told police she had found a pipe and a plastic baggie of drugs in their home, according to a recently released Arlington police report.
In December, a Tarrant County grand jury declined to indict LeBlanc on a drug charge.
“This episode has been difficult for all of us. Mel has made a good decision for himself, his family and the city. We wish him the best. The City Council will continue to move forward and to focus on our work for the Arlington community,” Mayor Robert Cluck said in a press release.
LeBlanc will resign from the council effective Feb. 14 and announced that he will not run for re-election.
His District 1 seat will remain vacant until the scheduled May 12, 2012, election, according to the city of Arlington.
