Bands Battle for Boasting Rights

DFW drumlines beat competition

Bands from Texas' largest high schools will march onto the Alamodome field today to vie for the 5A State Title, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Competing powerhouse bands include: Berkner from Richardson, Duncanville,  L.D. Bell from Hurst and Flower Mound Marcus.

They’re considered by many among the ones to beat at the Class 5A state marching band championships in San Antonio.

Berkner has competed in each of the biennial state contests since 1994. L.D. Bell's appearances stretch back to 1996 and Duncanville's streak dates to the ‘80s. Marcus is a heavy contender, having won the last two state titles.

Seven other schools from North Texas are competing with Berkner, Duncanville and L.D. Bell at the 5A state level this year. The 3A championship happened Monday.

From the preliminary round during the day, 36 bands will be whittled down to 10 that make tonight's state final.
