The New Year's strongest cold front will arrive overnight.
The arctic front should push through the Metroplex before midnight.
All of North Texas will wake up to much colder temperatures Thursday and Friday.
Most areas will be in the 20s in the morning with windchills in the teens. The good news is that the air mass is very dry, so there is no threat of ice or snow.
Thursday will be very cold all day long with most places not getting out of the 30s. The last time it was this cold was right before Christmas. The daytime high on December 15th was 39 degrees and on December 16th only 34.
The center of the coldest air will move to our northeast bringing much of the United States the coldest air in quite some time. We will just get grazed with the arctic airmass which means we should begin warming up for the weekend.
But first, Friday morning may be the coldest weather we've seen in almost two years, with lows in the lower 20s in Dallas and Fort Worth and the teens in our suburbs.
