Appeals Court Backs AG Ken Paxton's Push for New Judge

A Dallas-based state appeals court sided with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Tuesday, backing his bid for a new judge in his criminal case.

According to court documents, the Fifth Court of Appeals voided every state order issued by state District Judge George Gallagher after April 11.

That includes the order setting Paxton's September trial date. Cases will be transferred from Collin Collin to Harris County.

The charges against Paxton stem from his time as a state lawmaker in 2011, when he allegedly lined up money for a tech startup called Servergy Inc. without telling investors he was being paid by the company. Paxton has argued that he was under no obligation to do so.

If convicted, Paxton faces up to 99 years in prison.
