Nearly 50 Firefighters Battle Apartment Flames

A fire ripped through a northeast Dallas apartment complex Sunday morning, destroying the homes of ten people.

Dallas Fire-Rescue was called to the Calais apartments and condos at 5:30 a.m. at 9323 Slopes Drive in northeast Dallas Sunday morning.

First responders saw smoke billowing from the roof of the building. As they entered the apartment, firefighters found a large fire in an empty unit on the third floor which was quickly spreading, firefighters said.

It took nearly 50 firefighters to control the fire and extinguish the flames. While there were eight total units in the burned building, the firefighters were able to limit the damage to only three apartments.

Firefighters said they believe the fire started in the upstairs apartment, but the exact cause of the fire is unknown.

No injuries have been reported at this time, and police are investigating the cause of the fire.
