Dallas Fire Rescue responded to an apartment complex that caught fire in Northeast Dallas Tuesday afternoon.
The Sun Colony Apartments, located at 10075 Royal Lane, had four units damaged -- two by fire, two by smoke and water.
When firefighters arrived, they witnessed smoke and fire coming from a unit on the first story, according to Jason Evans of Dallas Fire Rescue.
Investigators say a 50-year-old may have caused the fire when he lit a tea candle that caught a potted plant on fire. According to Jason Evans, the fire grew out of control in that unit, spread through the bedroom and traveled up into a second unit.
The man was transported to Baylor Hospital with smoke inhalation and minor burn injuries, but was in stable condition.
A firewall in the building stopped the spread of the blaze and allowed firefighters to contain the fire quickly. Personnel were still on scene to extinguish hot spots and check for more fire damage at last check.
Chopper 5 was above the scene and witnessed flames rising out of the roofs of the building.
