Ammonia Leak Forces Pepsi Plant Evacuation in Mesquite

A large commercial building was evacuated for an ammonia leak Tuesday morning, according to Mesquite Fire Department officials.

Officials said a forklift ran into a line, causing the leak at the building in the 4500 block of Interstate 30 at about 9:45 a.m.

One person was injured and transported to a nearby hospital, authorities said.

The building is a Pepsi plant and vending machine supplier.

Firefighters said it will take them about two hours to bleed the line.  In the meantime, the lines have been shut off and fans will be used to vent the building.
